to DetroitLions.com staff writer James Royer, going into Lambeau Field for an early battle with the Green Bay Packers, the Lions realize that their best defense might just be a good offense.

With that in mind, second-year quarterback Joey Harrington wants follow up his NFC Offensive Player of the Week honor by keeping the ball out of the hands of Brett Favre.

Well thats the biggest thing, you never want to give [Favre] the chance to be on the field at all," Harrington said. "There was a poll, someone told me last week, with all the coaches in the NFL asking who is the best quarterback top to bottom in the NFL, and every one of them said Brett Favre. Its because he wins football games."

As Harrington prepares to be efficient and sustain drives, he just might have one more offensive weapon to help him move the chains.

Wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim, who has been sidelined the last month with a knee injury, returned to practice Thursday.

He practiced today in pads for the first time in about a month," head coach Steve Mariucci said. "He felt pretty good, hes getting ready to go and I think we have to decide if and when were going to play him."

Hakim underwent arthroscopic surgery in the middle of August to remove a loose body in his knee. He sustained the injury during training camp when he landed hard. Hakim missed last weeks season opening win over the Cardinals.

Even without him in the season opener, Harrington fired four touchdown passes including two to rookie receiver Charles Rogers. That kind of performance gives Mariucci and the coaching staff the option of making sure Hakim is healthy for the long term.

"It could be this week," Mariucci said. "It doesnt have to be this week but hes getting very close. We were going to play it by ear based on how he felt in practice and he feels pretty good. He didnt come out in pads yesterday but he ran routes very quickly, he felt good and he didnt swell up. He didnt get sore so he chose to come out
