chance to beat the mighty Steelers, which could also conceivably earn Couch the chance to unseat Kelly Holcomb as the teams starter.

Thats the impression at least.

But as Akron Beacon Journal staff writer Patrick McManamon suggested this morning, impressions are like impressionistic art -- theyre about moods and feelings.

In this case, the reality seems to come more in between-the-lines reading.

This past week, head coach Butch Davis:

  • Waited until Thursday to decide and announce that Couch would start even though Holcomb looked like a man with prosthetics as he walked out to practice on Wednesday.

Asked several times whether this gives him a chance to be the starter again, Couch merely said he wanted to win a game.

This could be the standard "team-first" response, but at some point it would seem reasonable to assume that the former starting quarterback might say that, yes, he would love to win the job back with solid play during the week.

But the focus in practice this week
