limited by injury, got 84 yards on 19 carries.

But Denver racked up 190 yards Monday night as Clinton Portis and Mike Anderson combined for 112 yards on 24 carries, and quarterback Jake Plummer scrambled for 42 yards.

Part of the reason Tomlinson is off to a slow start is a lack of touches. He has 52 carries, which has him on pace for nearly 100 fewer carries than last season.

And even though he wasnt included on the teams injury report, Tomlinson skipped Wednesday and Thursdays practices in order to rest a sore groin. He returned to the practice field Friday and -- at this point -- theres no reason to believe the injury will be an issue.

And finally. ...

In an article published Friday, North County Times beat writer Jay Paris wrote that on the record, teammates maintain that Bostons suspension isnt a distraction.

"Whats done is done," linebacker Zeke Moreno said. "From the teams standpoint, we got to move forward."

Added linebacker Ben Leber: "Its not a concern of mine. He is an employee in the workplace and got in big trouble. It was between him and [Schottenheimer]."

Said veteran defensive end Raylee Johnson: "You just keep on moving on. You cant worry about it. A lot of things are out of our control."

But privately, some Chargers didnt hide their disgust. When Bostons name was mentioned, one player rolled his eyes. Another, when asked where was Boston said, "Who knows?" Another, when asked about the situation, said "some things are better left unsaid."

That describes the reaction by the Arizona Cardinals, his former team. Their executives declined to comment, but those at their practice said their satisfaction in not retaining Boston was clearly evident.

"You cant say they didnt know," a Cardinals player said of the Chargers taking a chance on Boston. "Somebody knew around here, didnt they?"','9/27/2003','11:35:00 AM','Saturday'0,2003,197 5769,31,4,'McCants Has No. 3 Spot Locked Up...','According to Washington
