Of course, Davenports potential still appears greater than Fishers, so the Packers will not give up on him. Fisher might never be a starting halfback in the NFL.

"At this particular time, the way were using him I think is his best deal," Croom said. "Its a little different when youre starting and carrying the ball 25 times a game."

Things just arent getting any easier for running back Nick Luchey.

On Wednesday, Luchey returned to practice for the first time since injuring a calf, which has kept him out of the first three games. But Lucheys practice time was short-lived, as a tipped pass went off his hand, shattering his left thumb.

"This has been a season of hell for me," Luchey said. "I finally get back and then this happens."

Luchey hasnt been ruled out for Monday nights game at Chicago, but he knows that a lot has to happen between now and then for him to be able to play.

"Theyre trying to build a cast that would completely immobilize it, so I could play ASAP," Luchey said. "But right now, if it got hit again, it would shatter more and Id have to have surgery."

Surgery still might be in the cards for Luchey regardless of whether he plays against the Bears. One of the possibilities is to insert a pin to stabilize his thumb, but if he has that done, he would miss two to three weeks.

"Its really a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-dont deal," Luchey said. "Theres still a chance that if I dont play, it will heal on its own."

Both of Lucheys injuries have occurred in practice, which makes it even more frustrating.

"First I hurt my calf just going in motion and then someone tips a ball and I hurt my thumb," Luchey said. "I want to play so badly that everything has been so frustrating. ..."

According to PackersNews.coms Dylan B. Tomlinson, Robert Ferguson was held out of Thursdays practice, but said he would practice today. Ferguson
