he feels ready, and Dungy said Rhodes "more than likely will" play Sunday.

"Whenever the coach wants to put me out there," Rhodes said. "I guess theyre waiting to see how Im going to look for this week. I feel good. Im explosive. The knees still not as strong as the other one, but Im quick to the hole.

"Im making moves like I used to. At first, I was real nervous making moves. Im feeling comfortable, like myself."

Williams, the teams top healthy running back, has rushed one time for seven yards this season after rushing for 35 yards on 11 carries as a rookie last season.

"I dont know his situation right now, so Im assuming [James] is not going to play," Williams said. "Thats kind of how well approach it until we find out if hes going to play or not. Im ready to go."

Mungro played extensively last season in place of then-injured James, rushing for 336 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns on 97 carries.

"Were approaching it like any other week -- we dont know his status," Mungro said. The Associated Press is now confirming that Daunte Culpepper could be upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Minnesotas game against San Francisco.

Culpepper, who has not practiced this week, cracked three bones in his back when he ran for a touchdown last Sunday at Detroit. He began the week listed as doubtful on the injury report and backup Gus Frerotte has been working with the first team in practice.

But head coach Mike Tice said Thursday that Culpepper, the NFLs highest rated passer, has made good progress and could be upgraded Friday morning.

"Im just astonished," Tice said.

Culpepper has been receiving continuous treatment and also worked out in a pool.

"Today he came out pretty bright eyed and feeling a lot better," Tice said.

Tice planned to let Culpepper practice Friday before determining whether to allow his star quarterback
