to the Associated Press, Tim Couch will start at quarterback for Cleveland on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, replacing the injured Kelly Holcomb.

Head coach Butch Davis announced the switch Thursday during his weekly Internet show on the teams web site. Team spokesman Todd Stewart told the AP that Davis will address the quarterback situation following practice.

Holcomb sustained a hairline fracture of his right fibula during the first quarter of Sundays win at San Francisco. He also sprained his left ankle in the third quarter, but refused to come out and rallied the Browns to a 13-12 win.

On Wednesday, Davis said he would wait until after pregame warmups Sunday before deciding on a starter.

Davis picked Holcomb over Couch to be Clevelands starter before the season opener.

Couch, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, started 14 games in 2002. He led the Browns to eight wins before breaking his leg in the regular-season finale against Atlanta and missed Clevelands playoff game against Pittsburgh.','9/25/2003','11:10:00 AM','Thursday'0,2003,163 5736,17,4,'Frerotte Making Necessary Preparations -- Just In Case...','As reported by Associated Press sports writer Andres Ybarra, even if Gus Frerotte starts Sunday against San Francisco instead of Daunte Culpepper, head coach Mike Tice plans no changes in his offensive strategy.

"We wont run any quarterback draws, Ill tell you that much," Tice said Wednesday.

Frerotte isnt a threat to run the ball the way the burly Culpepper is, but the Vikings still plan to run the offense at full speed. A calm, experienced veteran, Frerotte and his coaches believe he still has some starting years left in him.

Frerotte, who threw for 184 yards and a touchdown last weekend against Detroit when Culpepper left the game with an injured back, will work with the first team this week in practice. Culpepper is getting treatment to help speed the healing process for
