Bernie Miklasz wrote that he talked to coaches and players this week in an attempt to get the real story.

And it appears that Warners "freelancing" has become a major issue.

As Miklasz described it: "Kurt has been changing stuff. Happened last year; Martz thought they had a meeting of the minds on this. Kurt did it again in the Giants game. It mostly has to do with his reads on blitzes and where the ball should go.

"Kurt -- and the receivers told me this, not Martz -- decided that he knew better than Martz, and changed the way Martz has always drawn it up as far as making the progression of hot reads on blitzes.

"A few of Kurts little freelance missions resulted in disasters at Giants Stadium. Had he thrown the ball where it was supposed to go, they would have avoided some problems. Martz talked to Warner about this for 30 minutes on Wednesday during their 1-1 meeting."

Interesting stuff.

Its also worth noting, even though Warner said he was disappointed when Martz went public with the decision to promote Marc Bulger before informing him of the change, Miklasz reports that team official left voice mail messages every 20 to 30 minutes with Warner starting late morning on Monday -- calling two different phones -- and he never called back.

Despite all the controversy and behind the scenes drama, I wouldnt look for any of the principals here to rock the boat to much. Remember: Warner is one good hit away from trotting back onto the field and Martz knows it.

Also of interest this morning. ...

In an article published Thursday, SportsLine.com senior writer Pete Prisco noted that team officials are excited about No. 3 receiver Dane Looker.

They thought rookie Kevin Curtis would hold the job, but he got hurt in the preseason.

Looker holds for kicks, so the thinking was he was kept for that. But Looker, who seems to have a very good relationship with Bulger, caught five passes last week against the 49ers and looked comfortable doing so.','9/21/2003','6:10:00 AM','Sunday'0,2003,150
