Offensive coordinator, Paul Hackett, calls it reverse-coaching: remove everything the players have been taught, like the West Coast offense on which Chad Pennington thrived, and install new information, that is, whatever Hackett comes up with for quarterback Vinny Testaverde today against the Dolphins.

"Youre trying to reverse-coach what you did a year ago with Chad," Hackett said, his job complicated by Penningtons absence with a broken wrist. "You think wed be older and wiser and be able to make that process faster, and certainly we ought to be able to make it in the next couple of games. There is a transition you have to live with. Are you happy with it? No. Its the reality of it. It doesnt happen quickly."

But as Battista put it: "The tape of the Texans offense may indeed set the Jets offense back in time."

In the season opener, the Jets tried to use a close-to-the-vest, run-intensive offense against the Redskins. The run did not work; the Jets threw one deep pass and, as a result, they did not have an offensive play that gained even 20 yards. But the Texans had success against the Dolphins defense, which uses one of the leagues best pass rushers in end Jason Taylor, by using the spread offense extensively. Hackett sounded intrigued by the strategy.
