Thompson was brought in as a free agent to make plays. But he had no catches in Sundays loss against Houston. Not one appearance on the stat sheet.

"I didnt want to leave my house," Thompson said. "It was hard. I let the team down, I let myself down. It was embarrassing."

After starting training camp with a number of impressive catches, Thompson has been quiet. He had six catches for 81 yards in four exhibition games but didnt look like a No. 2 receiver behind Chris Chambers.

Chambers had seven catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns against the Texans. James McKnight, the No. 3 receiver, had one catch for 12 yards. But Thompsons lack of production has gotten the most attention.

Coaches also believed he could have made a play on Marcus Colemans fourth-quarter interception. Thompson didnt break up the Jay Fiedler pass and Colemans interception led to the game-winning field goal.

Head coach Dave Wannstedt was asked Monday whether he considered benching Thompson in favor of McKnight,
