for 4 yards last season against the Saints; and Dez White (12 catches, 169 yards) is averaging a team-best 14.1 yards per catch, 3.1 yards better than his career average.

And finally. ...

As reported by Chicago Tribune staff reporter David Haugh, looking woozy and sounding sorry, running back Rabih Abdullah stood in front of his locker Wednesday and accepted responsibility for an alleged hit-and-run accident that resulted in his arrest for driving under the influence.

"I would just like to apologize to my teammates, my coaches, my family, my wife," said Abdullah, who didn''t take questions. "I take full responsibility for any repercussions from this. I know what it takes to win in the NFL, and what I did, obviously, was a distraction, and I don''t want to distract my teammates in any way. I''d just like to apologize to everybody involved."

Abdullah was on the road at about 6 a.m. Tuesday when his vehicle sideswiped another. About 10 minutes later, Abdullah lost control of his vehicle as it flipped, rolled down an embankment and rammed a fence. He faces charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and improper lane change.

The Bears cannot take disciplinary action until the NFL does because it was an off-the-field incident and the collective-bargaining agreement limits what a team can do. The league will get involved first because it involves a substance. But Bears management was upset, team sources said, and will take action. What that is remains unclear, but Abdullah will miss Sunday''s game with a concussion suffered in the crash.

Jauron met with Abdullah for about 45 minutes Wednesday. "We''ll have to wait and see," Jauron said. "Nothing good happens, generally, for the individual and for our team if you''re on the streets at 2, 3, 4, 5 o''clock in the morning. There''s nothing good that happens for anybody at that time."

Reserve halfback Brock Forsey is likely to be activated Sunday, but he''ll be limited to special teams work.','10/9/2003','1:45:00 PM','Thursday',283
