back, is questionable. He practiced Wednesday.
"We''re going to do whatever is best," James said. "If I can practice, I''ll be out there. I''m going to try to play because I hate missing games.
"Last week I was close to playing. The chances are a whole lot better than last week."
Also, running back Dominic Rhodes did not practice Wednesday. Dungy said it was a precautionary day off for Rhodes'' right knee. Rhodes is listed as probable.','10/9/2003','12:55:00 PM','Thursday',282 5853,6,6,'Edinger Continues To Deliver -- Especially In The Clutch...','As Chicago Daily Herald sports writer Bob LeGere suggested this morning, "there isn''t a player on the Bears, or in the NFL for that matter, who has done his job better than Paul Edinger this year."
The veteran place-kicker has hit all eight of his field goal tries this season, pushing his career success rate to 81.9 percent, and he''s never missed an extra point in four NFL seasons.
Edinger''s 48-yard game-winning 3-pointer against the Oakland Raiders was his fourth as a pro. He also had a 50-yarder Sunday and 5 of his field goals this season have been from beyond 40 yards.
"Paul has been clutch forever, since he''s been here," head coach Dick Jauron said, "and he was clutch again."
Edinger was named NFC special teams player of the week Wednesday. He was the NFC special teams player of the month last November, when he hit 10 of 11, including a 40-yard game-winner in overtime against the Detroit Lions. In 2002, Edinger tied for the NFL lead with 5 field goals of 50 yards or longer, which also tied for the third-highest single-season total in NFL history.
Edinger approaches his work with the precision of a surgeon, and he probably makes fewer mistakes.
"I try to treat every kick as if maybe it''ll be my last," he said. "I don''t want to go out not making a kick."
In Edinger''s line of work, mental toughness and focus may be more important than leg strength, and that may be what sets him apart from the crowd. Punter Brad
