In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly noted the bye week came at a good time for Jamal Lewis, who led the NFL in carries with 94 after Week 4.

Lewis is averaging 23.5 carries in his first four games, a figure fine by running backs coach Matt Simon, who told PFW that while Lewis is in good enough shape to carry 30 times or more a game, "the wear and tear on the body from contact and an NFL grind would be a lot to bear on any back."

The Ravens would ideally like Lewis to carry the football in the "mid-20s" range each game, Simon told PFW, but realize that isnt always an option.

"Were just looking forward to those games when he doesnt have to do as much to win and to succeed, when we can diversify that load a little bit, and those numbers maybe drop to 20," he said.

The piece went on to suggest if Lewis is to get less work as the season goes on, it will be because the teams passing attack, which is mustering only 103.5 yards per game, starts to pick up its play. Lewis is under no such pressure; he shattered the single-game rushing record in
