"He can run for 400 (a game)," McGinnis quipped.

But McGinnis said without hesitation Tuesday that Smith will be his starter when he returns from a fractured scapula.

"[Smith] hasnt done anything to lose it," McGinnis said.

That could become an issue at some point. McGinnis admitted it is difficult to pinpoint any time frame for Smiths recovery from the hairline fracture of the left shoulder blade and the team will simply have to monitor his rehabilitation.

But, said McGinnis, "I have no doubts hell be back."

Smith advised a local television station he has been told the injury will put him out four to six weeks.

"Im feeling pretty good," Smith said. "My spirits are up. Theres not a whole lot of pain, but I do have pain."

When Smith does come back, he might return to a team different than the one he left. The Cardinals havent played well, but should Shipp start to produce big numbers and the team wins some games, it may not be easy just to drop Smith back in the lineup.

Smith has 192 yards rushing on 65 carries this season, a 3.0-yard average. Shipp has 80 yards on 24 carries, or 3.3 yards a carry.

But as Urban pointed out, it remains to be seen what the team can get out of Shipp. The offense as a whole, and the running game in particular, has stumbled often outside of the teams lone victory. Shipp did lead the team with 834 yards rushing last season (starting just six times) but he had not gotten much
