"You''ve got to see the effect he''s having on defenses. He''s opening things up for other people. I wouldn''t trade him for anyone. There are some good tight ends out there, but I think Jeremy has everything you''re looking for in a tight end."

Said Fassel: "I wouldn''t trade Jeremy for any other guy. He''s my kind of guy and he''s a good player."

Fassel believes Shockey will begin to play better and put up better numbers as he adjusts to the coverages, and tactics, of defenses. To combat congestion at the line, Fassel has moved Shockey into the slot and split him wide.

"I think people are much more aware of him, trying to double him, grab him, bang him off the line," Fassel said. "And he''s just going to have to get used to that and he can''t let that frustrated him."

Shockey has practiced crisply, especially recently, which pleases and encourages Pope. Speaking quietly and looking downward, Shockey allowed for some cautious optimism.

"In my heart, I know it''s going to come around," Shockey said. "I''m just real hard on myself. (You''ll see tomorrow) what you see every Sunday. I''m going to go out there and try my best. If I fail, I fail. All I can do is try."

And according to the Sports XChange, Fassel believes that Hilliard, the team''s receptions leader with 17, "is one of only three guys I''ve coached who have that natural instinct of knowing where to be and what to do in any situation in a football game."

He named the other two as fullback Larry Centers and tight end Shannon Sharpe. He coached Centers when he was offensive coordinator in Arizona, and coached Sharpe in a similar position in Denver.
