He''s listed as probable on the injury report.','10/31/2003','7:30:00 PM','Friday',463 6033,10,9,'McCaffrey''s Status Won''t Be Determined Until Monday...','Veteran receiver Ed McCaffrey did not practice this week and will likely see limited playing time even if his sore knee is well enough to play Monday night against New England.

McCaffrey missed the past two games with a chronic condition in his right knee and was still having trouble cutting early this week.

Head coach Mike Shanahan said he won''t know if McCaffrey can play until just before Monday night''s game. Even if does play, Shanahan said it will only be for about 15-20 plays.

"He still had the same type of soreness that he''s had the last couple of weeks, so my recommendation to Ed is, just stay off it," Shanahan said Wednesday. "He can do some things in the weight room that doesn''t keep the pressure on like it does working out on the field."

McCaffrey missed most of the 2001 season after breaking his leg in the first game, but bounced back to catch 69 passes for 903 yards last year.

McCaffrey had eight catches for 73 in six games before sitting out against Minnesota and Baltimore.

Shanahan said he would have no problem playing McCaffrey without seeing him in practice.

In an article published Monday, Denver Post staffer Patrick Saunders suggested that once Jake Plummer returns to the lineup, second-year receiver Ashley Lelie will be back on track. He has only seven catches for 76 yards in the last three games and no touchdowns.

He continues to get open deep and across the middle, but Kanell, and before him Steve Beuerlein, have been unable to deliver the ball. Lelie''s speed and great hands remain a valuable commodity.

And one last note here. ...

Clinton Portis failed to reach 100 yards last week against the Ravens, and the going could be just as tough this week against a Patriot defense allowing just 89.8 yards rushing per game.','10/31/2003','8:10:00 PM','Friday',464
