yards allowed. But dont let that fool you. Their secondary is one of the best in the league, with Pro Bowl cornerbacks Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison as well as big-play safeties Brock Marion and the newly-signed Sammy Knight.
"A lot of that has been because teams have been behind on them, and then they just have to come out in the second half and air it out," said Brees. "Then they become a bend-dont-break kind of defense. But you see them get a lot of turnovers because of that. On one hand, yeah, they give up those passing yards in the second half, but theyre getting interceptions and fumbles and that sort of thing."
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then the Dolphins got a nice compliment from the Chargers earlier this year.
"We spent a lot of time this offseason studying the Miami defense," admitted Schottenheimer this week. "Theyve modified it a little bit, but for all intents and purposes its what it has been. Its very, very straight forward. Theres nothing complicated about what they do. That in and of itself, I think, along with the fact that its a very experienced defense, I think that makes them one of the best in the NFL.

Following up on an item in this week''s Team Notes. ... Tomlinson told Associated Press sports writer Bernie Wilson a few people in the Chargers'' organization, whom he wouldn''t identify, were taken aback that he wore a Seau jersey around the team''s headquarters on Monday as a show of respect for his former teammate.
Angered at their response, the normally easygoing Tomlinson left in a huff after that day''s practice.
Tomlinson said a few people told him he should have worn Seau''s jersey some other time. He wouldn''t say if they were players, coaches or other staff members. Mondays are generally low key, with a team meeting and a light workout. Teams don''t put in their game plan until Wednesday.
