James is expected to start Sunday after missing the last three games before the recent bye week with a back injury. James practiced throughout the week and head coach Tony Dungy said Friday the former first-round draft pick is ready to play.

Thats good news for the Colts, because two of the teams backup running backs -- Ricky Williams and James Mungro -- are expected to miss this weekend with injuries.

"We really dont have many people to turn to when you need a breather," James said with a laugh Friday.

"Thatll be the only thing right there. If Im looking to the sidelines, I know [running backs coach] Gene [Huey] is going to be telling me, Stay in there. You cant look to the sidelines. Thats one thing I already know."

The Colts likely will have three running backs active Sunday -- James and reserves Brian Allen and Dominic Rhodes.

"Weve got enough guys," Dungy said. "Well monitor that and watch it, but I would think on the crucial plays, it will be Edgerrin."

Rhodes, an 1,100-yard rusher in 2001 as a rookie, missed all of last season with a knee injury and has missed four of six games this season while recovering. Allen, the teams leading rusher during the preseason, was released two days after the season opener.

The Colts re-signed Allen during the bye week, and Dungy said Rhodes and Allen will be ready to back up James Sunday.
