Chiefs run the football. By comparison, Miami''s Ricky Williams, playing in a conservative offense that runs more than any team in the league on first down, is averaging 3.4 yards per rush.

"We spread out and get the lanes for Priest to run," said Saunders. "It''s not about how much you run the football, it''s about how you run it."

The Chiefs are ninth in the league in rushing, averaging 132.4 yards per game. They are 15th in passing, in large part because they haven''t been forced to play from behind like they were last season, when they finished 11th in the league in passing.

The Chiefs have run it 30.1 times per game, and they''ve thrown it 29.3. To compare, they ran it 28.9 times a game last season and threw it 29.8.

With a difference of .8 in the run/pass ratio per game, they are tied with San Francisco for second for lowest differential The Broncos are the most-balanced team, running it 30.4 times per game and throwing it 30.1, a .3 difference. Oakland has the worst differential at 16.8, throwing it 37.1 times a game and running it 20.3.

They also have one of the better offensive lines, which allows Saunders the opportunity to take more chances with spread formations.

"We just try and put our players in a position to do what they do best," said Saunders. "And that''s to go out and make plays. They''ve responded."

As reported by the Sports XChange, Vermeil, irate over the way opposing defenses have been holding tight end Tony Gonzalez (literally) while coming off the line of scrimmage, sought out referee Mike Carey to convey his concerns before Monday night''s game in Oakland.

Vermeil asked Carey''s crew to be extra watchful of the way Gonzalez was being defended. And they were.

Enough so that they called Gonzalez twice for offensive pass interference.

"I''m never going to say anything again," Vermeil groused.

Not that he could stay quiet for long, however, especially when discussing one ticky-tack foul in which Gonzalez was merely hand-fighting through press coverage.
