But Rogers is doing all he can, eager to get back on the field sooner than expected.
While his work ethic and desire to succeed were questioned by scouts when Rogers came out of Michigan State after two years of college football, Mariucci and the Lions say Rogers has been one of their hardest-working players. He has been on the practice field, peeking over coaches shoulders during game-plan installation, and has yet to miss a meeting or film session with position coach Bobby Williams (Rogers college coach at Michigan State).
The only difference, as unfortunate as it may be for the Lions, between Rogers two weeks ago and in his present condition is that his broken clavicle keeps him from doing much physical work.
Without a definite timetable for his return, the Lions remain optimistic he will be back on the playing field in early November....
James Stewart told Sylvester this week that he''s ahead of schedule recovering from surgery to repair his dislocated shoulder but added it''s difficult sitting out the entire season.
"It hurts because you had so many high hopes for this season," Stewart said. "Obviously, it didn''t start the way we wanted. Not being a part of it hurts as well. Your teammates are out there striving to get wins and you want to be a part of that struggle."
Stewart, who has one year left on his contract, declined to speculate on his future with the Lions.
"The only thing I can do is worry about getting myself back fully healthy.
