just like me. If I drop a ball, it''s killing me for a couple of days. If if didn''t bother him, I''d be worried," Smith said.

Taylor, who is seventh in the AFC with 457 yards rushing, also has the respect of the Titans.

Tight end Erron Kinney, who blocked for him at Florida, said, "We barely had to touch opponents on running plays, and he did the rest. He could always take advantage of the smallest hole and make the long run. His combination of speed and power amazed me."

Although Taylor will try to avoid fumbles, he''ll stick with the style that made him the back he is today.

"My style is my style," Taylor said. "I only know one way to play. I can''t be thinking between plays if I''m doing too much or if I''m not doing enough I really can''t judge that during a play which probably lasts 4 or 5 seconds. It''s all instincts and reactions. I''m just going to go out there and play hard. That''s the only way I know," Taylor said.

As Times-Union beat man Bart Hubbuch put it: "Another week, another unfamiliar NFL defense for Jaguars rookie quarterback Byron Leftwich to digest."

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher favors the "46" scheme made famous by former Philadelphia Eagles coach Buddy Ryan when Ryan was defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in their 1985 Super Bowl run.

The 46 frequently calls for a safety to move near the line of scrimmage and serve as an eighth defender "in the box." It also uses frequent blitzes while cornerbacks play tight, man-to-man coverage behind the defensive front.

"Not many college teams run that defense, so I''m not sure how much of the 46 [Leftwich] has seen," Del Rio said.

One potential saving grace for Leftwich: The banged-up Titans are 31st in the NFL in pass defense, although third in the league against the run. ...

And finally. ...

The Jaguars worked out former Kansas City receiver Sylvester Morris, but showed no immediate interest in signing him.','10/24/2003','12:30:00 AM','Friday',394
