"It was a lot faster, a lot more intense," he said. "You''ve got 11 guys on defense coming to get you. You''ve got 11 guys on offense trying to get to the end zone. It''s a real fast and serious thing."

Gage and Wade will be among nearly a dozen rookies on the field Sunday for the injury-depleted Bears. The team''s 2003 draft class is a close-knit group eager to prove its worth to veteran teammates.

"As far as the rookies and how we feel about it, we''re all anxious to make plays," Wade said. "I think we all have the confidence in ourselves to be able to get some things done, and not only just to get them done on a minimum level, I think we feel like we can do it at a high level.

"It''s not about saving the team or anything like that. It''s still the whole idea of our team coming together and getting some things fixed. The rookies are a part of this team as well and we''re just trying to find our niche and (gain) some confidence from the other guys and give them an opportunity to believe in what we do."

Also on the injury front. ...

Head coach Dick Jauron advised reporters that Anthony Thomas (sprained foot) would not practice until Friday at the earliest, and Adrian Peterson (sprained left ankle) was also held out through Thursday. Their injuries open the possibility the running game will be reduced to Rabih Abdullah and Brock Forsey.

Abdullah led the Bears in rushing this preseason with 97 yards on 16 carries but has gained just 10 yards on seven attempts in four games this season.

"If the opportunity presents itself, then I''m definitely going to do my best and try to perform and help my team get a win," Abdullah said. "It''s important for us to win this game. It''s a huge game for us at this point in the season and we''re going to try to do our best."

Forsey, a sixth-round pick from Boise State, finished second to Abdullah in the preseason with 84 yards on
