','10/18/2003','8:35:00 AM','Saturday',358 5929,22,7,'Callahan Says Porter Will Play Monday Night...','According to Contra Costa Times staff writer Ann Tatko, the injury report still lists receiver Jerry Porter''s playing status as doubtful, but head coach Bill Callahan removed all doubt Friday.

Porter is back.

He said he intends to play in Monday night''s home game against the Kansas City Chiefs. If so, it would be his first game since undergoing hernia surgery Sept. 12, five days after the season opener.

"He''s going to play. That''s not going to be a secret," Callahan said. "He''s a valuable player for our team. It''s important that he is up, so we can get some continuity in our passing game and utilize his abilities to help us move the ball a little more efficiently than we have been."

Hours before Callahan confirmed it, Porter indicated he expected to play. He practiced for a third straight day Friday, and that was good enough for him.

"I don''t practice for fun," he said. "I''m not practicing just to show it. I want to get in there and play."

The question now is, whether he will start, an option Callahan left open.

"He''ll play, but how much, how often, that hasn''t been determined yet," Callahan said.
