"He''s always been a Packer killer," commented a Green Bay reporter when Morton pulled in one of his six catches.

During eight seasons as a member of the Detroit Lions, Morton turned in several strong performances against the Packers, including a pair of 100-yard games. But to Chiefs fans, Morton''s six-catch, 109-yard, one-touchdown game was something new.

While it was the 19th 100-yard game of Morton''s career, it was his first as a Chief. It was by far his strongest performance since signing with the team as a free agent before last season.

Morton is second on the team in receiving behind Priest Holmes with 19 receptions for 334 yards and three touchdowns.

"Johnnie, every week is playing better and better, keeps gaining confidence and coming up with big plays," Trent Green said. "You can just see the confidence that he''s playing with right now."

The key is that Morton has been coming up with big plays when the Chiefs have really needed them. He broke loose for a 36-yard run on an end-around when the Chiefs desperately needed to get field position in the third quarter against Baltimore.

He made a nice over-the-shoulder catch for a 28-yard touchdown that drew the Chiefs close in the third quarter against Denver, and he evened the score of last Sunday''s game at 14-14 with a nice catch-and-run for a 10-yard touchdown against Green
