"He still needs to improve as we all do, but he''s getting better," head coach Dick Jauron said. "We''d like to see more run after the catch from him, and he''s capable of that. The more balls he catches the more opportunity he''ll have to show that also."
Mayer went on to note that White has produced four of the Bears'' six longest pass plays this season and his 15.3 yards per catch average ranks 14th in the NFL and is a vast improvement over his 11.0 career average. He already has five catches of at least 18 yards including a season-long 49-yarder against the Vikings.
The 2000 third-round pick from Georgia Tech has increased his number of receptions each year of his pro career from 10 to 45 to 51, and with a team-leading 17 catches for 260 yards and 1 TD, is on pace to establish career-highs in receptions and yards in 2003.
"Dez has had a nice progression," Jauron said. "He had very little experience at wide receiver in college and every year he has stepped up and gotten a little bit better and a little bit better. It seems like he''s responded to the pressure and we put pressure to hold onto that job."

With Adrian Peterson starting in place of the injured Anthony Thomas at running back, Rabih Abdullah will serve as Peterson''s backup.
Abdullah returns to game action after missing last weekend''s loss in New Orleans following his DUI arrest. The sixth-year pro sustained a concussion in the second of two car accidents he allegedly caused while driving under the influence but would not have played against the Saints even if he were healthy.
"I think Rabih''s handled it as well as you could handle it probably," Jauron said. "I think he''s very disappointed in himself. He''s not a big talker. He doesn''t talk a lot anyway. I think he''s been a little quieter than normal.
"I think he''s anxious to get on with things, to get back into a routine where he''s playing football and then he can focus on other issues off the football. I know he''s committed to doing that."','10/17/2003','2:05:00 PM','Friday',348
