The Vikings added Elling to their injury report but listed him as probable, and he should be ready to kick Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

"As far as I know, it should be fine," said Elling, who has converted seven of nine field goals in his first year as the Vikings kicker. "[Wednesday], it was to the point where we just said, ''Let''s not kick. Let''s give it some time.'' So that''s what we''re doing."

Also according to Siefert, Michael Bennett''s once-longshot bid to play this season moved closer to reality Thursday when the star running back, who began running last week while rehabilitating the stress fracture in his left foot, added full-speed change-of-direction drills to his workouts.

Afterward, Bennett sounded as convinced as ever that he will resume playing early next month.

"There''s no pain, so the biggest thing for me is the mental side of it now," Bennett said. "I just have to get the confidence to convince myself that [the foot] is OK and that it''s not going to get hurt again."

Bennett remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list, but if all goes well he could begin participating in parts of practice next week. The Vikings have targeted their Nov. 2 game against the Packers for his return.

"If I don''t have any setbacks," Bennett said, "I''ll be on the field for that game. I missed the opener against the Packers, but I''ll be there to close it out."
