ball caused his demotion and allowed Tony Fisher to claim the backup spot.

Over the next three games, Davenport carried just once and was inactive one week due to a hamstring injury. When approached about his role in the offense on two occasions last week, Davenport declined comment. But his coaches didn''t.

"He''s talented. We''d sure like to have him be a part of things," offensive coordinator Tom Rossley said. "But he''s got to hold onto the ball."

With Green running better than any time in his career, Davenport''s failures might not appear to be of great concern. But it could catch up with the Packers later in the year.

"Najeh''s a good runner and Fisher''s a good runner. So I would like to play all three possibly. Maybe as we accrue carries throughout the season it''s something we''ll be more cognizant of."

Davenport must be hoping that after his performance Sunday, the coaching staff will be more cognizant of him.

He ran for 12 yards on two first-half carries, then on Green Bay''s first drive of the second half, he had his most impressive run of the year. On a second-and-four from the Chiefs'' 18-yard line, Davenport
