5803,24,5,'Burress Gets Back To Work Early...','According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sports writer Gerry Dulac, Plaxico Burress was not scheduled to practice yesterday because the team''s medical personnel wanted him to get another day to rest a hip pointer.

But Burress, who ranks fourth in the AFC in receiving yards (351), said his injury was feeling so good he decided to practice anyway.

"It feels a lot better and I just can''t sit on the sidelines too long," said Burress, who will play in Sunday''s game against the Cleveland Browns.

The news wasn''t as good for tight end Jay Riemersma (shoulder), who missed a second day of practice and remains questionable for the game.

According to Washington (Pa.) Observer-Reporter staffer writer Dale Lolley, when Amos Zereoue was named the Steelers starting running back in training camp over Jerome Bettis, he thought it would mean a lot more work than he has gotten in the past.

But a quarter of the way through the season, Zereoue carries haven''t increased that much over his load from last season as the Steelers have passed the ball 60 percent of the time.

"Would I like to see more touches and more success with the run? Of course," said Zereoue, who''s ninth in the AFC with 224 yards on 60 carries. "It''s not happening that way, but I can''t get frustrated. It''s a long season."

Not only is the team not running as much, it''s not running effectively.

The Steelers have gained 74 percent of their yards through the air this season, their largest imbalance since they began tracking such statistics in 1969. Their 3.1 yards per carry average this season is also their lowest total since 1969.

"Offensive football is offensive football," said Tommy Maddox. "Y''all can try to put a label on it if you want to, but we''re 11 guys trying to move the ball. To us, it really doesn''t matter how we''re getting it done."
