Pathon as a starter and become one of Aaron Brooks'' primary targets along with Pro Bowler Joe Horn.

But Pathon is still starting and Stallworth has just 14 catches for 199 yards and one touchdown.

"The first quarter of the season was not nearly up to my standards at all," Stallworth said. "I look back on it and realized I wasn''t playing well and told myself from here on out I''ll do whatever it takes."

Stallworth said on Mondays he takes home a tape of the Saints game the day before and a tape of their upcoming opponent and studies both extensively.

"Whenever I''m sitting around the house not doing anything, I pop in the film and watch," he said. "The first thing I do is analyze myself and see if I have any tendencies, see if I''m giving away any routes. Then I look at the defense."

Stallworth said he made one discovery watching himself on film.

"I''ve just got to relax," he said. "I''ve been out there trying to do too much. Last year I let the big plays come to me instead of trying to make big plays. I think that''s the big thing for me this year going back and watching the film. That''s how big plays happen. You let them come to you."

Stallworth over-eagerness might be the reason he has committed a few pre-snap penalties.

"I worry a little bit about his concentration," head coach Jim Haslett said. "We can''t have penalties from receivers and we can''t drop balls that turn into interceptions. In the Seattle game (the season opener), he catches eight balls and drops five. He should have had 13 receptions for more than 200 yards in that game.

"The guy has got all the skills in the world. He''s a big guy, extremely fast and talented. I think once he clears the hurdle -- and maybe it''s because he''s still a young kid, just 22 years old. But he does need to grow up some and clean up some things. And once he cleans things up, I think he''s going to be a great receiver in this league."

All of which reminds me of something New Orleans Times-Picayune staffer Jeff Duncan
