Associated Press, Edgerrin James missed practice Friday, this time because of the flu.
James, who missed the last two games with a sore back, is expected to return to practice Saturday but a decision on whether he will play against Carolina on Sunday probably will not be made until just before kickoff.
"Edge today just wasn''t feeling well," head coach Tony Dungy said. "Back-wise, everything was fine, but he''s got some flu-like symptoms. We''ve had that with a couple of guys, so we kind of let him stay away from everybody. But I think, soreness-wise, he was OK."
James has taken part in just four practices since he first injured his back against Jacksonville on Sept. 21. The two-time NFL rushing champion missed an entire week of practice before the Colts'' game at New Orleans on Sept. 28, and after practicing twice last week, James did not play at Tampa Bay on Monday night.

James Mungro, who sprained his right knee late in Monday''s game against Tampa Bay and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, returned to practice Friday.
He had an MRI on Wednesday and the results showed a slight cartilage tear.','10/10/2003','1:55:00 PM','Friday',299 5870,10,6,'Improving Plummer Not Ruled Out, But Beuerlein Ready...','As reported by Associated Press sports writer John Mossman, even though Jake Plummer''s injured shoulder is improving, backup quarterback Steve Beuerlein is prepared to start against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
But head coach Mike Shanahan left the door open for Plummer to play.
"Jake is feeling a lot better, so that''s a good sign," Shanahan said. "Unless there''s a setback, he''ll be ready to go."
Plummer, however, is listed as questionable on the Broncos'' injury report.
Plummer partially separated his throwing shoulder four weeks ago against San Diego, then aggravated the injury Sunday against Kansas City.
