Finneran back helps the team, Reeves said: "Well, he made a couple of big plays in the Dallas game, and you miss those. You miss the two or three or four plays that guy can make.
"Brian has been doing that now for a couple of years and you also need him in the running game; he does a great job of blocking and hes just got that veteran leadership. You need all the guys like that that you can get and having him back in the lineup will definitely help."
The coach added, however, that Quentin McCord and Jimmy Farris have done a good job in Finneran''s absence and "we''ll call on them the rest of the season."','10/9/2003','7:30:00 PM','Thursday',290 5861,8,6,'Couch Trip Extended; Holcomb Aiming For November Return...','According to the Associated Press, it could take longer than originally anticipated for Kelly Holcomb to return from a leg injury.
"It takes about four to six weeks to heal," Holcomb said Thursday of the hairline fracture of his right fibula.
Holcomb could be out until after the team''s bye week, meaning he would be ready for the Nov. 9 game at Kansas City.
Holcomb said he isn''t experiencing any pain, but the pain would return if he tried to play at game speed.
"Yes, it is frustrating a little bit," he said. "I could sit there and bellyache all day about it, but in reality, what can I do? It''s just an unfortunate part of the game."
Head coach Butch Davis said Holcomb could return later this month if he can tolerate pain.
Holcomb worked almost entirely on the scout team this week as the third-string, or emergency quarterback, the role he served the last two weeks behind starter Tim Couch and rookie Nate Hybl.
Couch, who lost the starting job to Holcomb in the exhibition season, has played well the last two weeks -- especially last Sunday, when he led to the team to victory over Pittsburgh.
And make no mistake about it: If Couch continues to play well, we''ll have ourselves another full-blown quarterback controversy
