the load and I think that is the right thing to do right now."

Besides, Westbrook has already contributed more than he did all of last season. During a rookie campaign in which he attempted to get acclimated to the Eagles offense, he carried just 46 times for 183 yards and no touchdowns. He has surpassed those numbers already this season, getting 30 carries for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

"I think [last year] was a learning experience," said Westbrook, who played behind Staley and veteran Dorsey Levens. "It was an opportunity for me to learn and feel my way into the league. I had two good guys in front of me and it was just tough.

"You never really want to be on the sidelines, but it was an opportunity for me to learn the offense and things like that."

Donovan McNabb likened Westbrook''s development to that of receiver Todd Pinkston.

"I think that in your first year, you''re thinking so much about where you need to be, the depth you need to run on your route, or what hole you need to hit," McNabb said. "The guy that you can tell that from is Todd Pinkston. When ''Pink'' came in, he was thinking a lot. The second year, he just came out and played football. He''s been playing great ever since.

"What Westbrook is doing is being put in great positions and he''s making big plays for us."

Pinkston''s reception total has grown from 10 in his rookie season to 42 in 2001, to a team-leading 60 in 2002, including seven touchdowns.

And as Murphy summed up: "Westbrook is determined to keep contributing. Whether it is as a change-of-pace, or ''the pace.''"

According to the Sporting News, Buckhalter, who is listed as questionable on this week''s injury report, practiced Wednesday and expects to play Sunday. The former Cornhusker suffered a bruised knee last week. He''s expected to be the No. 3 running back against the Cowboys.

And according to the Sports XChange, McNabb, who bruised the fibula that he broke last season, said his leg is still sore.
