Most significant to Fantasy owners would the decision to go with a scaled back version of the offensive playbook. They also cut some schemes from their defense, shortened practices and dialed down the physical intensity while preparing to take on the Chargers.
"I think right now less is better, and I mean less everything," head coach Mike Tice said. "Weve talked about how we need to play fast. I think our plans are going to allow us to play fast."
On Wednesday, Tice finished practice nearly 40 minutes earlier than normal. Thursday, practice ended 15-20 minutes early. Hitting was limited; the only equipment players wore were helmets and the shells of their shoulder pads. Coaches, meanwhile, simplified the game plan by extracting new formations and schemes they have added since training camp.
For this week, Tice said, it was more important for players to focus on executing the Vikings base schemes better.
"Sometimes youve got to cull back," Tice explained. "And go back to all the stuff you worked on in the offseason and training camp and say, Lets go back to how we started this thing out. Forget all those specialty plays and specialty defenses, if you will. That wasnt our bread and butter
