But Williams cant turn things around by himself. Which is why Wannstedt and his assistants spent some time coming up with new ideas that might lend additional spark.
One was introduced Thursday afternoon when players involved in the running game -- offensive linemen, running backs and tight ends -- watched tape of their practice running drills together, rather than splitting into three position meetings.
The idea of the meeting, according to Wannstedt, was to get all the men involved in the running game to be of one mind.
"Were trying to make sure were all on the same page," Williams said. "Before, we would watch the running drills separately -- tight ends, running backs and linemen -- so were not necessarily always on the same page. But [with] this approach, were going to watch the inside drills, the run drills together to make sure were on the same page.
"A lot of times our coach is telling us one thing, another coach is telling the offensive line one thing and the tight end coach is telling them one thing, and were not positive were all on the same page. For us to sit together and watch the same thing, well know what everyones thinking."
As a Fantasy owner who selected Williams in the first round of more than one draft this year, I have a one-word assessment of Wannstedts renewed commitment to running the ball more effectively:
