"I never got the impression he wasnt running as hard as he could, but when you watch film, some guys take the ball and theyre gone, some guys get the ball and read down the line," center Tim Ruddy said. "Rickys a guy who does some of both. And there seems to be a little more lateral movement this year than before."
Running back coach Joel Collier said there was a "three-week stretch" during which Williams "wasnt running as hard as he could." But the coach and Williams agree everything is back to normal now.
"I realized what got me where I am today is the fact I run hard, so I rededicated myself to running a little harder," Williams said. "Im definitely a little sore this week for it, but I think thats the sacrifice I have to make to make this a better team."
While Williams is convinced he is once again running as hard as ever, one teammate Thursday questioned why he didnt leave Colts defensive back Nick Harper sprawled on the ground when he faced a one-on-one situation in the open field last Sunday.
"I would have expected [Williams] to jack that guy up," said the player, who asked Salguero not to reveal his identity.
"Obviously thats his play to make," Collier said. "He knows that. Thats the play hes got to make and do it in one of two ways -- either make a better move on a guy or run him over.
"There was a lot of space where this one occurred. I would have taken a move on the guy, but he made a bad decision on his move. He left his feet to the point where the guy could get under him, and he couldnt get a foot planted to make another cut. So from the standpoint of technique, it was probably just average."
Williams weighed 228 pounds Thursday. Thats six pounds lighter than last year, but neither he nor Collier believe the lighter frame has factored into Williams production.
"Should he have more power in those scrums to get through them? Yes," Collier said. "But I dont think it has anything to do with him losing six pounds. Hes got as much
