What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

to Associated Press sports writer Joe Milicia, it only took four seconds for head coach Butch Davis to bench the teams leading receiver.

Kevin Johnson said that was the length of conversation Monday when Davis told him backup Andre Davis would be starting in his place Sunday at Kansas City.

Johnson said he didnt ask why.

"Hes the coach, Im the player and I respect his decision," Johnson said.

But that doesnt mean he agrees with the coachs call.

Davis said Wednesday that Johnson could see playing time Sunday in multiple receiver packages, but Johnson clearly believes hes starting material.

"I know Im a starter in this league, whether its here or somewhere else," Johnson said Wednesday. "I know I can start in this league. I think my numbers speak for themselves."

Johnson said he was hurt by the demotion, which has shaken up a receiving corps that has just six touchdowns and has not performed up to expectations.

"It surprised me a lot," fellow wideout Quincy Morgan said. "K.J.s a very good player. You cant help but be surprised."

Johnson has led the Browns in receptions in each of his four seasons and leads them again this year in catches (40) and yards (378).

"I have one drop on the season," he said.

But it was a crucial drop on fourth down in the final drive of a loss to San Diego two games ago. Johnson also cut short a route that led to an interception and underthrew a pass that should have been a touchdown.

"Everybody has a couple bad plays here and there," Tim Couch said. "K.J.s been our most consistent guy over the last five years."

Johnson has been Couchs favorite receiver since the two entered the league in 1999 as the first two draft picks of the expansion Browns.

Couch, benched in favor of Kelly Holcomb to start the season, will again back him up Sunday. He laughed when asked if he felt a kinship with Johnson in getting benched.

"Were just connecting in a different way now," Couch said smiling.
