What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

at quarterback, head coach Bill Callahan admitted the team will be running a simplified version of the offense this Sunday.

And as Bell asked: "Whats more simple than running the ball -- especially against the Jets, the only team worse than the Raiders in run defense (allowing 153 yards per game)? And why havent you done it more by now?"

"I think its an inaccurate question," Callahan said Monday, using the Lions game as his only example. "Weve continued to run the football. We came out (last Sunday), we ran it in the third quarter quite well. We came into the fourth quarter. It was a two-possession game in the fourth quarter, and we decided to try to get back in the game by some balance.

"So we are attempting to run the ball. And we do obviously commit to it, and we do feature it."

Callahan ignored the fact that no NFL team has run fewer times this season than the Raiders, who have 168 rushes in eight games.

As Bell summed up: "If nothing else, running the ball would mean the Raiders undisciplined, misplaced defense would have less time on the field."','11/6/2003','1:30:00 AM','Thursday',494 6064,31,10,'Physical Pounding Taking Mental Toll On Ramsey...','According to Associated Press sports writer Joseph White, Patrick Ramsey was quick with an answer when asked what the Redskins need to do to win Sundays game against Seattle.

"I think we have to beat the blitz," he said with a chuckle.

Ramseys constant pounding is no laughing matter, though, and there is growing concern it could mar the development of a promising young quarterback.

Ramsey has taken 26 of the Redskins NFL-high 29 sacks allowed this season and hasnt gone start-to-finish for three straight games. He had to leave last Sundays loss to Dallas twice -- once to have his bruised forearm X-rayed and once to have his dislocated pinkie popped into place. Both injuries were on his non-throwing arm, so he was able to return to the game.

But at what cost?

The second-year quarterback, according to head coach Steve Spurrier,
