One concern is that McGahee still appears to drag and favor his injured leg while attempting to accelerate.
"The big thing is we want to see him get back to full explosiveness on the field so that, No. 1, hes productive enough to help win ballgames for us and, No. 2, its safe enough for him to play health wise," Williams said.
To make room on their roster, the Bills released third-string running back Ken Simonton.
Starter Travis Henry was happy with the move, even though it means hell eventually have to share time with McGahee.
"Im happy for him because of all the rehab he went through and all the hard work," Henry said. "Its a great thing."
Henry added hes impressed by what hes seen from McGahee in practice.
"From what Ive seen, I think hes got what it takes to play in this league," Henry said. "And I dont think hes 100 percent, but he still looks good."

In an article published Monday, Pro Football Weekly reported that several Bills, including fullback Sam Gash, have been quietly frustrated about the teams strategy in 3rd-and-short situations.
According to team observers, Gash doesnt understand why the team signed him to be a lead blocker but has rarely run the ball in those instances.
On 3rd-and-1 or 3rd-and-2 in the first seven games, the Bills passed 58 times in 58 chances, not counting kneeldowns or times in which the team was running the two-minute drill.
Gash hasnt caused a stir in the locker room and has made it clear that hes not complaining about the coaching, but he just is confused as to why the team would pay him to not do the job hes been brought in to do.

Buffalo News beat man Allen Wilson reminded readers on Monday that Henry is almost automatic near the goal line. All eight of his touchdown runs have come from inside the 15.
