What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

Hes barely had time to catch his breath.

Two weeks ago against the New York Jets, James posted season highs with 36 carries that netted 127 yards. Last Sunday at Buffalo, he took 28 handoffs that resulted in 108 yards.

The 64 carries are the most in back-to-back games in James career. They resulted in the first consecutive 100-yard outings since his return from reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

Today in the RCA Dome, James faces New Englands No. 5-rated run defense. Hell do so with fresh legs, despite his recent workload.

"This is what you prepare for in the offseason," James said. "I feel good and that shows that Ive worked out. Its a matter of keeping it going."

One of the Colts main objectives heading into the season was to make certain their thoroughbred was ready for the stretch run. Thats one of the reasons they didnt rush James return after he fractured two bones in his lower back against Jacksonville on Sept. 21.

Rather than have James play in key games with Tampa Bay and Carolina at less than 100 percent, the team allowed him time to more fully heal.

"We felt like we wanted to be at our best in December with him," head coach Tony Dungy said. "I think weve seen him at his best the last two weeks and hopefully it will be that way down the stretch."

Despite missing three games with the back injury, James is averaging 91.9 yards per game and on pace to finish with 1,194 yards. That would mark his third 1,000-yard season in six years and tie him with Eric Dickerson
