Also according to Mayer, the team placed tight end Robert Johnson on injured reserve with a fractured foot and signed tight end Gabe Reid to their active roster off the Tennessee Titans practice squad.
Johnson injured his foot in practice Thursday. The 6-6, 270-pounder signed with the Bears in May but was placed on the non-football injury list with a wrist injury sustained last season at Auburn.
Johnson moved to the active roster Nov. 10 and made his NFL debut on special teams in last Sundays win at Denver.

Tice adopted the new go-for-it philosophy Sunday against Detroit, and it worked both times the Vikings tried it.
"Were going to keep on doing it that way," Tice promised. "Were going to play not to lose."
With Aaron Ellings field-goal range around 50 yards, the Vikings will take their chances once they reach the opponents 40. If they get inside the 30, Elling likely would be called upon on fourth down. He is 9 of 11 on field-goal attempts of 39 yards or less.
Last Sunday against Detroit, the Vikings converted first downs on fourth and 7 from the Lions 35 and fourth and 4 from the Lions 42.
Tice has devised a chart for when to go for it on fourth down, similar to the charts coaches use for when to go for two-point conversions. Tice and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan figure its worth the risk rather than punting the ball that deep in opponents territory.
