He said he was trying to be optimistic but doesnt want to set himself up for a letdown.
"Im just going to keep an open mind right now to where I can improve even more in the next two days," said McNair, who watched most of the nearly two-hour practice with his right calf on ice. "Im just staying positive that I am going to play."
Despite McNairs cautious optimism, head coach Jeff Fisher said the veteran signal callers status still wont be determined Monday night before kickoff against the New York Jets.
"The risk is obvious," Fisher said. "If you subject him to further injury, then youll lose him for a number of weeks."

As reported by chicagobears.com senior writer Larry Mayer, Anthony Thomas has been ruled out of Sundays home game against the Arizona Cardinals due to viral pneumonia, the Bears announced Saturday.
Thomas was treated late Friday and did not significantly improve Saturday. He is expected to make a full recovery over the next few days.
Despite missing two games with a sprained foot, Thomas is tied for sixth in the NFC in rushing with 721 yards and 4 TDs on 168 carries.
Mayer added: "With second-stringer Adrian Peterson out for the season with an ankle injury, rookie Brock Forsey is expected to make his second NFL start against the Cardinals."
As previously reported, the sixth-round pick from Boise State also got the call Oct. 26 at Soldier Field when Thomas and Peterson were both hurt and rushed for 56 yards and 1 TD on eight carries in a 24-16 win over the Detroit Lions.
