What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

so many things," Bulger said. "Weve rested him enough where hes going to be 100 percent and I think hes anxious to get back out there. When hes anxious and he can play, hes pretty good."

Even if hes not sure what to expect. Faulk broke his left hand Sept. 21 and had surgery on his right knee, which turned out to be the more serious of the two injuries -- although at the time the procedure was portrayed as a mere cleanup operation.

Faulk dressed for the last two games, but did not play behind undrafted rookie Harris, who made his first two career starts after Gordon sustained a high ankle sprain. Harris will be the backup this Sunday and Martz hinted earlier in the week that Gordon could miss several more games.

"For the most part they kind of took it out of my hands," Faulk said. "The doc gave me a timeline and he said Heres the possibilities of coming back early, heres whats realistic, and we kind of stuck to the realistic goal."

On Wednesday, Faulk was back with the first-team offense. On Sunday hell jump into the fire, trying to find holes in the Baltimore Ravens defense.

"I dont know exactly what the procedure is going to be or how much time Im going to get or how many carries or whatever," Faulk said. "Im pretty sure if everything is going good and Im feeling good, Im going to play the whole game."

But he tempered that, knowing its been a while since he last played.

"Game speed and game tempo is a little different than practice and conditioning you do on a treadmill and stuff like that, and theres nothing like getting 10, 15, 18, 20 carries a game," Faulk said. "Im sure a fatigue factor might be there, but it might not."

Faulk has tested the hand without problems in practice, although he doesnt know how itll hold up under game conditions. The knee hasnt been a problem either, lately.

Now its time to work on that paltry rushing total.

Faulk has only 116 yards and a 2.8-yard average. Hes not sure if the knee was a factor in his early-season woes and wont use it as an excuse. The Rams rebuilt offensive line also struggled at the start.
