scored the winning points in two games and became the first rookie in 20 years to catch a touchdown pass in his first four NFL games.
But theyve only seen glimpses of Stallworths talent this season.
Aside from eight receptions for 101 yards in the first game and catching scoring passes of 35 and 69 yards in the second and seventh games, Stallworth has made little impact.
He has 17 catches for 294 yards and two touchdowns.
"I dont know how hurt he is," Haslett said. "I am not (in) his body. I cant tell you that.
"The doctors told me that he is hurt. That is all I know. It is legit. I dont think he doesnt want to be out there. He is hurt."
"Donte is definitely a big-play guy," McCarthy said. "I think he demonstrated that last year. But the most important requirement for an athlete is his availability, and thats not his strength right now.
"But frankly, I cant worry about that. You have to go on and play with the players who are out there."
For now, Stallworth is not out there, and his return is anyones guess. Haslett and McCarthy wont speculate.
Even Stallworth, whos been the target of good-natured teasing from teammates recently, isnt sure when he will play again.
"I dont think Im letting my teammates and coaches down," Stallworth said.
"Its just hard for me not being out there. Its hard to be standing on the sideline, especially when we lose. If we win, its a win, regardless how we get it, bad, ugly, good. When we lose, its hard."
