Stay tuned. ... Ill continue to monitor this situation closely in an attempt to confirm ESPNs report -- updating as necessary, but in the meantime, Shockey looks like a p shaky "Dreaded Game-Time Decision" at best.','11/28/2003','3:40:00 PM','Friday',707 6277,30,13,'Improving McNair Officially A "Dreaded Game-Time Decision..."','According to the Associated Press, Steve McNairs injured right calf is improving, but his status for Monday nights game against the New York Jets is very much in question.
On Friday, McNair worked with trainers inside, then did some tenuous five-step drops on the side, while making just a few throws. It showed a little bit of progress, but not enough for head coach Jeff Fisher to declare it a major advance.
"I think hes been able to do that for a couple of days now. Thats not a major step in the rehab, Fisher said. "He bounced back a couple of steps today. He didnt do anything full speed. He didnt even do anything half speed. He didnt put a lot of pressure on the leg. What he did today shows that he is slowly improving, but it wasnt a giant step by any means.
The main question is whether playing will put him at risk for further injury.
"Were not just talking about Monday night here. Weve got a couple of games after that that are very important. We dont want to put him in a situation where he couldnt play later on in the year by playing him too early here, Fisher said.
The Titans will test McNair a few hours before kickoff to see whether he will be able to play. If he cant, fourth-year man Billy Volek would make his first career start.
My guess says thats the last we hear of this one until Monday night, but Ill continue to monitor the situation and let you know if anything changes before then.
