Brooks watched the workout in sweat pants and his No. 2 jersey as backup Todd Bouman directed the first-team offense in preparation for Sundays game at Washington.
Brooks practiced Wednesday, one day after an MRI on his left knee revealed a sprained medial collateral ligament. He said the decision to skip Thursdays session was strictly was a precautionary measure.
"Its fine," Brooks said. "I wanted to just take it easy on it today, not press it. Im going to go home, have a nice dinner and watch some football. I expect to be back out there [Friday]."
The four-year veteran missed a practice down the stretch last season while resting his injured right throwing shoulder, but otherwise he has been a pinnacle of reliability since assuming the starting job in Game 12 of the 2000 season.
"Aaron was a little sore today, so we just decided to let Todd handle it," head coach Jim Haslett said. "Aaron will be okay."
Brooks has started 50 consecutive games.
"I always take pride in coming out here and practicing every day," Brooks said. "I take pride in playing because I want to get better. I want to make the guys around me better, and I cant do that if Im not out there practicing and playing with those guys."
