The previous game against Indianapolis, Becht had one catch for minus-1 yards. But he made up for it against the Jaguars. Becht caught a season-long 29 yarder in the first quarter on a drive that led to a field goal.

He also came up big against Oakland. Becht caught a 2-point conversion pass from Pennington to tie the game at 24. His only other reception of the day, a 6-yarder, came on the game-tying drive. The Jets won 27-24 in overtime.

"Hes made big plays for us in some games," head coach Herman Edwards said. "Hes big in our offense because when theyre taking the receivers out, and theres one-on-one matchups with the tight ends, hes a guy that can get open."

Becht also is a good blocker.

"Anthonys done a tremendous job," Pennington said. "When you watch us play, a lot of pressure is put on our tight ends and the running game to make one-one-one blocks versus defensive ends, to make blocks on linebackers. Hes played really consistent every game, coming in and blocking the big defensive end and then making some big catches in the passing game."

Becht said having a career game is not important to him, but he looks forward to another opportunity to exploit a defense that focuses too much on Moss.

"Its good that we won and had a good game," Becht said. "If we would have lost, it wouldnt mean anything. The fact that they did do that and said, Let somebody else beat us, I was able to get some open areas and make some plays."

According to New York Daily News beat man Rich Cimini, if the Jaguars strategy last Sunday is any indication, the Jets will face a lot of cover 2 defense the rest of the season as opponents try avoid getting burned by the outside speed brought to bear by Moss and Jonathan Carter.

And as long as thats the case, Becht and fullback Jerald Sowell will continue to benefit.
