If McNair is unable to play, Billy Volek will get his first NFL start.
"Its too early to tell right now. We still have a long ways to go," McNair said. "Hopefully we can get some stuff done in the next 48 hours and by [Friday] I can make a statement and be optimistic about it."
Because its a muscle-related injury, head coach Jeff Fisher said McNair wont be able to take a pain-killing injection before the game.
Fisher again said McNairs playing status may not be determined until a few hours before kickoff. For now, hes listed as questionable.
"If he plays, he is playing because there is very little or no potential for worsening the injury. If he doesnt play, that is the reason he did not play," Fisher said. "It is not my decision. It will be a medical decision.
"Lets face it, I will not be surprised if Steve comes in and says, Im fine, I can go, Ill go. But we have to be realistic. We are going to be cautious."

Lelie has become better known among critics this season for three big drops than for his big-play potential.
"Were looking to him to make so many big plays for us," Plummer said. "I talked to [offensive coordinator Gary] Kubiak about maybe getting a few passes to him early, getting him warmed up a little instead of asking him to go run a 50-yard route and make the big play."
