Until Monday, however, he had never stood out among his peers or become one of the reasons a struggling team was suddenly feeling good about itself again.
Now, fans who didnt know who Lee was two weeks ago want to know what kind of shoes he wears and what he thinks of the situation in Iraq.
More important, they want to know if he can continue to do what he did against the Giants on Monday night. So do the Bucs.
Cummings went on to remind readers the league is full of players who have shined in one game and wilted under the heat of the limelight the next. Lee, who caught five passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in his breakout game, could be the next. There is nothing in his resume to suggest he wont.
Before Monday, Lees best game was a three-catch outing against Buffalo in which he gained 30 yards but never reached the end zone.
Maybe that explains why he has spent the past three days picking the brain of Keenan McCardell, who played six seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sunday nights opponent.
"I think that will help us," Lee said of McCardells knowledge of the Jaguars defensive scheme.
It cant hurt, but any success Lee has from here on will come mostly as a result of his ability to make adjustments on the field.
There is a tape of him out there now, and its a good one. Opponents will break it down and use it to devise ways of stopping him.
Not only that, but he is admittedly more sore than he has been at any other time this year. Playing with that pain will be a new challenge as well.
