As Associated Press sports writer Eddie Pells pointed out Wednesday, this isnt the first time Del Rio has been behind an odd decision. In one of the more bizarre episodes in NFL history, punter Chris Hanson severely hurt himself with an ax Del Rio placed in the locker room.
Del Rio, who was described as "overwhelmed and overmatched" by a Baltimore Sun columnist last month, also has history with strange quarterback situations.
Even though he knew Brunell would be his starter, Del Rio left Brunell hanging through the entire preseason. When he finally named Brunell the starter after the last exhibition game, Del Rio said he did it because "hes got two young, talented quarterbacks behind him, and it prepared him for the onslaught hell face."
Brunell, now third string, didnt appreciate the mind games, and is quietly looking forward to moving on.

According to Times-Union beat man Bart Hubbuch, recently acquired receiver Kevin Johnson worked with the first team in practice Wednesday ahead of Troy Edwards and could start opposite Smith against Tampa Bay.
Johnson had five catches for 77 yards last Sunday against the New York Jets in his Jaguars debut. ...
