What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

According to Seattle Times reporter Jose Miguel Romero, last Sundays 41-point, 426-yard offensive output at Baltimore made it official: Holmgren has opened up the offense.

Doing so carries the impression the Seahawks will be a pass-first, deep-throwing offense, putting less emphasis on productive running back Shaun Alexander and cutting down on his carries.

Not true, coaches say. No problem, says Alexander.

Yes, Holmgren did make a decision to throw the ball ("fling it around," in his words) more often and on first down. His play calls indicated as much -- Jackson, Koren Robinson, Bobby Engram and tight end Itula Mili combined for 19 catches, five touchdowns and 310 yards.

Alexander, meanwhile, still had a typical game with 22 carries for 72 yards, which shows that the Seahawks didnt abandon running the ball and had actually hoped to run more often as they built a lead in the second half.

"I just go out there every weekend and I make plays," Alexander said. "So if we open up the offense, that doesnt necessarily mean were going to throw it every play. It just means that were going to spread some people out. Sometimes there can be a lot of big runs when you spread them out. Whatever coach Holmgren is going to call, were just going to go in and make that work."

Holmgren said Alexander, who had just eight first-half carries last week, is a key component in the spread offense. A few weeks ago, Holmgren met with the offensive players and told them of his intention to change the offense a bit.

"Hes going to get his touches running the ball. And then, when the ball is thrown to him, hes got to catch it, and hes also got to pass block," Holmgren said. "Hes a valuable part of our team. You have to win the football game and the guys understand that and have accepted it pretty well. They get their touches. They get their plays."

In that meeting,
