we probably wont call as much with Chandler that well call with Kordell, and there are plays we call with Kordell that we dont really call with Chandler. All of them are in the playbook. Its just that the play-calling changes up a little bit."
Though they compete at the same high-profile position, theres no animosity between the Bears two veteran quarterbacks. When Stewart was asked following the Broncos game whether he felt he had won back the starting job, he insisted that it belonged to Chandler.
"Kordells a class guy," Chandler said. "Were good friends and we get along great. I have just as much respect for him. I was glad and proud of him to see him go in and play the way he did, and thats really all that matters is that we go and get wins."
Since Stewart lost his starting job after an Oct. 12 loss in New Orleans, he has continued to prepare like a true professional without complaining about his demotion.
"Patience is a virtue in life, and before I allow this game to become bigger than that, Ill have to sit back and take a deep breath because life is more important and everything is relative to that," Stewart said.
"If you come here based on someone else controlling the atmosphere, whether it be the ownership or the coaches, and I get upset because of a decision thats made, it would take me out of my own character.
"In order for me to continuously succeed, whether its the way it is now or some other way, I have to maintain my stability mentally and just allow myself to succeed and not get caught up because I know what I can do. Ive succeeded in this league. I have an idea of what it takes to win."
Stewart ranks 33rd and last in the NFL among qualifiers with a 55.9 quarterback rating, but he doesnt believe that numbers tell the whole story.
"Granted, you may not have the best stats in the world, but I dont think stats are what allow you to win games," Stewart said. "I remember one guy named Trent Dilfer who everybody dogged for a long time and he was a man who took (the Ravens) to the Super Bowl.
